Indexing
Whether Amazon has associated your listing with a keyword at all. Without indexing you cannot rank for it at any price.
Why it matters
Indexing is binary and prior to ranking. A listing that is not indexed for 'stainless steel water bottle' will never appear in that search organically, no matter how well it sells. Brands often chase rank for terms they were never indexed for in the first place.
In practice
Check it by searching the full exact term plus your ASIN in the Amazon search bar. If your product returns, you are indexed; if nothing returns, you are not. Fix indexing by getting the term into the title, bullets or backend search terms, then allow a few days for the catalog to refresh.
