You hold the inventory and ship each order yourself when it sells.
Why it matters
FBM keeps control and avoids Amazon storage fees, which makes it the right call for oversized items, very slow movers, fragile goods and products with handling requirements Amazon cannot meet.
In practice
The trade-off is the Prime badge and Buy Box weighting. Seller Fulfilled Prime bridges the gap but imposes strict delivery-speed and cancellation requirements that most 3PLs cannot hit consistently.
Many brands run a hybrid: FBA on core movers for the Prime badge, FBM on the long tail and oversized items.
