Why it matters
FBA fees are set by size tier and weight, and the tier boundaries are cliffs rather than slopes. A few millimetres of packaging can push a product into the next tier and take a meaningful bite out of unit margin overnight.
In practice
Amazon revises the schedule at least annually, so a margin model built two years ago is probably wrong. Re-measure your best sellers after any packaging change, and check tier boundaries before finalizing new packaging, the design change that saves a tier pays for itself immediately and permanently.
