Amazon fundamentals

ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number)

The ten-character code Amazon assigns to every product listing. One ASIN is one product detail page.

Why it matters

The ASIN is the atomic unit of Amazon. Reviews attach to it, rank attaches to it, ads target it, and every report you will ever read is grouped by it. When people say a listing 'went down' or 'lost its reviews', what they mean is something happened at the ASIN level.

In practice

A few properties catch brands out. Variations share a parent ASIN but each child has its own, and reviews can pool across the family, which is why variation structure is a real strategic decision rather than a formatting one. ASINs are also effectively permanent: if a listing is created badly, you generally fix it rather than replace it, because a new ASIN starts from zero rank and zero reviews.

How Amplore handles it: Before we buy a single unit we audit every ASIN in the catalog, duplicates, orphaned children and mis-parented variations are the most common hidden drag on a brand's Amazon revenue.
