SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)
Your own internal code for a sellable item. Unlike an ASIN, a SKU belongs to the seller, not to Amazon.
Why it matters
The ASIN identifies the product; the SKU identifies your particular offer on it. Several sellers can list against one ASIN, each with a different SKU. Your SKU is what carries your price, your quantity, your fulfillment method and your cost data.
In practice
Keeping a clean, meaningful SKU convention matters more than it sounds. When you are reconciling a purchase order against FBA inventory against a settlement report, a SKU that encodes brand, size and pack quantity turns a two-hour reconciliation into a five-minute one.
