Why it matters
Vendor Central is where 1P relationships are run: Amazon issues POs, you ship, Amazon sets the retail price. Access is by invitation, and Amazon has been steadily narrowing the number of brands it maintains 1P relationships with.
In practice
The operational realities that surprise 1P brands are chargebacks for compliance failures, co-op and marketing allowances deducted from remittances, and unilateral price reductions that Amazon may then ask you to fund. Net margin after all deductions is frequently well below the headline wholesale price.
